If You Have Recessed Lights, Read This

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays!  Today I want to share with you a super simple, relatively inexpensive energy-saving tip for your home.

A few weeks ago, we hired Greene Solutions to perform an energy audit of our home.  If you have never done an energy audit before, I would highly recommend!  They identified a number of ways we could make our home more efficient, thus saving us money in the long run.  We were surprised to learn that we were losing a lot of heat in our second story through our recessed lights, which looked like this:

Because the recessed lights were essentially open to the space above the ceiling, our heat was escaping through those holes into the attic above.  Greene Solutions recommended replacing all of our upstairs recessed lights with LED Retrofit Lights, which are completely sealed and look like this:

You can get the LED Retrofit Lights at any home improvement store, and they come in a variety of sizes and styles.  It was so easy to remove the old recessed lights and install the LED Retrofit Lights that my husband was able to do our entire second floor in one evening.

We noticed a difference the very next day – all of our bedrooms were so much warmer.  As an added bonus, the LED light bulbs are much more energy efficient than standard bulbs and need to be replaced less often, so you will save money there as well!

I’d love to hear your energy saving tips, and please let me know if you have any questions!
